Liverpool’s CAP program hosted its very first Soccer Education Night this past Friday at the SMU men’s soccer game as they took on Loyola University (Maryland). The purpose of the event is to help educate our players on the different levels and styles of play within the different divisions of college soccer (D1, D2, D3, NAIA, NJCAA).
College Program Director Dru Wright started these education nights this year after meeting with the various college coaches from around the metro-plex, to learn about their programs and the types of players they are recruiting. In order to get a better understanding of the soccer program and the school, coaches and the players need to see the level and style of play at a variety of universities. Liverpool players and parents attended the game this past Friday and got a first hand look at two very good Division 1 programs. After the game, several of the players go to meet and speak with some of the SMU players about their college athletic experience. The assistant coach of Loyola University and member of Liverpool FCIAA Maryland staff took a few minutes to meet the players and parents as well.
“We loved the CAP Soccer Education Night! Our boys left that night with a better understanding and insight on what they need to work on both on and off the field. The coaches and players taking the time speak to our players, answer questions and describe what exactly it takes to play at the D1 level is priceless! It was so well worth attending the event. It motivated our players by giving them tips on how to get noticed and stand out among all the other players who want a spot on a college team! The night gave us a better understanding of soccer at the college level and what is takes to get there. Priceless information and what a great night! We look forward to other education nights! Thank you Dru!” says 01B Neal parent, Cyndi Kronberg.
The next CAP event will be the SMU College Night on September 29th at 7pm at Westcott Field. The CAP program will also be hosting the first girls Soccer Education Night on Friday, October 6th at UNT as they take on UTEP. Look out for more information on the College Program calendar!
